Taking a Moment to Pause with Your Therapist Palm Desert

Thoughts from your Therapist Palm Desert

Bird soaring in sky; Therapist Palm Desert

Finding a moment to check in with your breath can lower your stress levels and bring you back into the present moment.

How do you cope with feelings of tension or stress in your body or mind?

This seemingly simple exercise can be a way of connecting with your breath and bringing calm to your nervous system.

In the moments where you really need to find your center, try the 4-7-8 breathing technique:

Take a deep, slow breath from your belly, and silently count to 4 as you breathe in.

Hold your breath, and silently count from 1 to 7.

Breathe out completely as you silently count from 1 to 8.

Try to get all the air out of your lungs by the time you count to 8.

Repeat 3 to 7 times or until you feel calm.

Next time you are feeling overwhelmed, scattered, foggy, unclear, or a strong emotion…

Allow your breath to act as a pause button.

How did it go?!
